Patreon alternatives for adult game developers

Patreon still has the biggest audience, but it's a risky single point of failure for adult games. Here are the alternatives and how to use them.

Updated October 22, 2026 · DuskPlay

Short version: SubscribeStar is the main backup for adult creators: lower fee, more tolerant. Pixiv FANBOX and Fantia reach Japanese and anime-art audiences. And a store for one-time sales captures players who will never subscribe. Most successful devs use two or three.

How to move patrons without losing them

  1. Open the new platform with the same tiers and rewards, so switching is a no-brainer.
  2. Give a reason: early builds a few days earlier, or a small exclusive.
  3. Announce it in your game's menu, on X and on Discord, not just on Patreon.
  4. Keep both running. Don't force anyone to move.

Don't forget one-time buyers

Many players never subscribe to anyone. They wait for a game to be complete, then buy it once. Selling finished versions on a store reaches them without cannibalising your patrons, who get builds earlier. Why players want to buy once.

FAQ

What is the best Patreon alternative for adult games?

SubscribeStar is the most common backup: adult-tolerant and a lower fee. For Japanese or anime-style audiences, Pixiv FANBOX and Fantia are strong.

Will selling my game in a store hurt my Patreon?

Usually not. Patrons pay for early access and ongoing development. Store buyers are mostly people who would never subscribe.

How much does Patreon take from new creators?

Creators who joined after August 4, 2025 pay a 10% platform fee plus payment processing.
